SPORTS – BOOMERANG – TYPES

The main types of Boomerang are:

  1. Standard Boomerang
  2. Albatross Boomerang
  3. Fuzzy Boomerang
  4. Ikarus Boomerang
  5. Carlota Boomerang
  6. Triller Boomerang

Standard Boomerang:

This is mostly meant for the beginners. It weighs approximately 75 to 85 grams. It can reach a range of 20 meters.

Albatross Boomerang:

This is used by people who have gained a certain amount of skill in throwing and catching. Used in Australian round. It weighs normally between 90 to 110 grams. It is designed to reach a range of 45 to 65 meters.

Fuzzy Boomerang:

If you want an accurate throw and catch, Fuzzy is the boomerang. This is also used for very swift catch and for performing a variety of trick catches. It can reach a range of about 15 to 60 meters; depending upon the final finish. It weighs between 30 to 75 grams. For flat throws that float with a uniform height, this type of boomerang is good.

Ikarus Boomerang:

It can fly far and needs only very light breeze. The flight line is low. It can reach a range between 35 to 60 meters depending upon the design and weight. The normal weight is between 60 to 80 grams.

Carlota Boomerang:

This type of Boomerang is primarily used for juggling and for performing a variety of trick catches.  However, to juggle, as is the case with any other object, you need two boomerangs. In juggling, one boomerang will always be in the air. It can reach a distance of about 15 to 25 meters depending upon the design. It normally weighs between 25 to 50 grams.

Triller Boomerang:

This is one Boomerang, which has the inherent capabilities to fly very, very fast even if your throw is very gentle and smooth. Naturally it is used for fast catching. It can travel a range of about 15 to 25 meters. Its normal weight is around 15 to 25 grams.

Material:

Boomerangs are made with materials such as wood (mostly birch or poplar), from hard woods like teak or rosewood exceptionally crafted to get the body weight and balance. In certain countries they even used animal bones, specially hardened hides etc. Boomerangs made of ivory are used basically as a mantelpiece exhibit. Today, plastics, reinforced fiberglass, polypropylene, PVC, ABS (Acrylonitrite Butadien Styrol), Paxolin (made of layers of paper bonded with phenolic resin) etc are also used. However, a precision crafted boomerang made from birch wood still steals the thunder!
